Image Catalog & Custom Images (Glance)
Okustera Image Management is powered by OpenStack Glance, providing a centralized repository for certified operating system images, custom application templates, and virtual machine snapshots.
Whether deploying standard Linux distributions or importing custom enterprise machine images, Glance ensures fast, zero-copy VM provisioning backed by Ceph storage pools.
Certified Public Base Images
Okustera maintains and regularly updates pre-hardened cloud images equipped with cloud-init, QEMU guest agents, and kernel virtualization drivers:
| Image Name | OS Family | Default User | Formats | Recommended Workloads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) | Debian / Ubuntu | ubuntu | QCOW2, RAW | General microservices, web apps, containers |
| Debian 12 (Bookworm) | Debian | debian | QCOW2, RAW | Minimalist footprints, lightweight proxies |
| Rocky Linux 9 | RHEL Compatible | rocky | QCOW2, RAW | Enterprise backends, database clusters |
| CirrOS 0.6.2 | Alpine / BusyBox | cirros | QCOW2 | Fast network diagnostics, smoke testing |
Managing Images in the Cloud Portal
You can browse, upload, and inspect images directly in the Okustera Cloud Portal:
- Navigate to Compute $\to$ Images (
/glance). - Browse Public Images: View available base images, disk formats, and minimum RAM/disk constraints.
- Upload Custom Image:
- Click Import Image.
- Provide an Image Name (e.g.
golden-nodejs-v20). - Choose Import Method:
- Direct URL Download: Provide an HTTP/HTTPS URL to a
.qcow2or.rawimage. Glance streams and unpacks the image directly into Ceph storage. - Local File Upload: Select an image file from your local machine.
- Direct URL Download: Provide an HTTP/HTTPS URL to a
- Specify Disk Format (
qcow2,raw,iso). - Set Minimum Hardware Specs (Minimum Disk GB, Minimum RAM MB).
- Configure Visibility:
private(scoped to current project) orshared.
Creating Images from Running Instances (Snapshots)
You can capture the complete root disk state of an active or stopped compute instance:
- In the portal, navigate to Compute $\to$ Instances (
/compute). - Locate your instance and select Create Snapshot.
- Name your snapshot (e.g.
api-server-prod-backup-20260928). - Glance creates an image from the instance volume or ephemeral disk. Once the status transitions to
active, you can launch new identical instances from this snapshot image.
Provisioning via Terraform
Discover public or tenant images dynamically in your Terraform manifests using the okustera_image data source:
# Discover the latest Ubuntu 24.04 image
data "okustera_image" "ubuntu" {
name = "Ubuntu-24.04-LTS"
}
# Launch instance using discovered image ID
resource "okustera_compute_instance" "app" {
name = "app-server"
image_id = data.okustera_image.ubuntu.id
flavor_name = "m1.small"
}
Managing Images via CLI
# List all available images
openstack image list
# Inspect image metadata and checksum
openstack image show Ubuntu-24.04-LTS
# Create a custom image from a local QCOW2 file
openstack image create "custom-alpine-v3" \
--file ./alpine-virt-3.20.qcow2 \
--disk-format qcow2 \
--container-format bare \
--min-disk 5 \
--min-ram 512 \
--private
